Lincoln Mudd is a sculptor and professor. He focuses primarily on the use of cast metals in his sculptural work and personally executes all phases of the process, including pattern development, mould making, casting and foundry operation, and the final chasing of the cast objects. Mudd does not focus on replication in the casting process; instead the artist uses the various phases of the casting process to individuate the works, utilizing the inherent reaction and transformation of materials in casting, as a critical component in the creative outcome.
His sculptures have been exhibited nationally in numerous group and solo exhibitions including at Arlington Arts Center and Montpelier Arts Center. Mudd has also served as a Volunteer Faculty in the City Vision Program of the National Building Museum, as an assistant to the collaborative group Art Attack installing the show “Latitudes” in Krakow, Poland, and participated in numerous residencies around the world. Mudd received an Individual Artist Award from the Maryland State Arts Council in 2003. He is a founding member of the Chester River Casting Coop and has served on the Board of the Washington Sculptors Group.
Mudd holds an Associate Degree from Montgomery College, and a Bachelor's Degree in Studio Art and a Master of Fine Art from University of Maryland, College Park.
